How I Replaced My Glass Cabinet Inserts with Aluminum Decorative Sheets!
Hey friends!! Today's blog post is extra special because I’m sharing an RV project with you that I completed ALL by myself! That's right, this native New Yorker is becoming a little more handy every project she takes on, (and although it's always a bit nerve-wracking in the beginning, it's also quite addicting and satisfying to see the outcome in the end)!
In today's blog post, I'm showing you how I replaced my glass cabinet inserts with these decorative aluminum sheets from Amazon or Lowes! I hope this inspires you to get bold and creative with the space in your RV, or “sticks and bricks” home! Enjoy!

What You'll need:
• Measuring tape
• Hobby Shears
• Decorative Aluminum Sheets (I used the Venetian Bronze Lincane, but they have many different designs and color options—Happy choosing!)
• Double sided tape (Ours held up to 24lbs)
Step 1:
First, I removed the glass cabinet inserts from our cabinets. The glue in ours happened to already be peeling off so it was pretty easy to remove and peel by hand! (I even got my nieces in-on-the-fun by using their little fingers to peel the glue, and it came right off!)
Step 2:
Once the glue was removed, I carefully used my measuring tape to measure the height and width of the cabinets where the aluminum sheets would replace the glass inserts.
Step 3:
After retrieving my measurements, I then marked the measurements out on my sheet of aluminum. [I had initially ordered two large sheets (3x3), but personally was able to use 1 large sheet for all three of the cabinets!] After making my marks, I began to cut each metal sheet out with hobby shears! (WARNING: These sheets are very sharp, and can make a mess upon cutting, so be careful! As excited as you'll be to cut these out, pace yourself, and do not rush so that you’ll get nice straight lines.) Make sure the sheets that you cut out all fit into the slots of your cabinet before moving onto the next step!
Step 4:
Next, it's time to grab your double sided tape! I cut 4-5 pieces of this tape, and spread it across each side of the groove in my cabinet's frame where the aluminum sheet would lay! Once I stuck the tape in tight, I peeled the top red paper portion off.
Step 5:
This step was the most exciting and satisfying!!! Grab the sheets you cut out, and LAY THOSE BAD BOYS IN PLACE!!! Place your sheets into the cabinets, and push them firm against the tape to secure them!! This double sided tape held wonderfully for us, and we haven't had any issues with our sheet sticking!
Your final step is to stand back in awe of your work!! Jumping up and down, or doing a "happy dance" is optional, but HIGHLY encouraged!!! GO YOU!!! :-)
