10 Things to Pray for Your Husband
Happy Monday, friends, and welcome back! Let's talk "husbands." We love them, we live with them, we do life with them...but are we praying for them? It's so easy to be overly focused on our own issues, and the weight of responsibility in raising kids, that we sometimes forget to acknowledge and pray for the “handsome stud” walking right beside us! (I too am guilty of this…) Today I'm sharing 10 basic ways we can pray for our husbands! I hope you enjoy!!
1. His future
Whether your husband is confident in his future plans, or still searching for his “next big step,” we can never be certain of what the future will hold. Lift up your hubby in prayer, and ask wisdom for his daily, or long term decisions, that will not only affect his future, but the future of your family. Pray that he seeks God for answers, relies on the Lord to direct his path, and trusts that He has a purposeful plan for his life.
"The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him;" Psalm 37:23
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord. Plans to prosper you, to give you a hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
2. His Safety
We are not guaranteed tomorrow. Ask God to keep your husband from harm, or any dangerous situations. I find that praying to God for the safety of my husband is a good way to release any fears, and keep my heart at peace, knowing that He is in control, and cares for him.
"Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go." Joshua 1:9
3. His Health
In the midst of our blissful youth, it can be easy to forget that being healthy is both a choice, and a gift! Pray healing over any current illness your husband may be experiencing. Pray that he takes care of his body, and quits any bad habits so he can live a long life glorifying to God!
"Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body." 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
"LORD my God, I called to you for help, and you healed me.” Psalm 30:2
4. His mind
The mind can be a spiritual war zone potentially leading to stress, anxiety, depression, fear, etc. Pray that God's truth would invade your husband's mind, and win victory over the lies of Satan. Pray that he takes on a mind of Christ throughout the day, resists temptations, and overcomes his daily internal struggles.
"Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful." John 14:27
5. His Integrity
Husbands have a lot of daily pressures that can test their integrity. Pray that whatever your husband does in life, he does it with strong, moral conviction. Pray for honesty to flow from your husband's mouth, and purity to stem from his actions. Pray that he stands up for the underdog, fights for justice, and continues to grow qualities consistent with those of a “man of God.” Simply put, pray that your husband would act as Christ would, whether in the presence of others, or not.
"Let your eyes look directly forward, and your gaze be straight before you. Ponder the path of your feet; then all your ways will be sure. Do not swerve to the right or to the left; turn your foot away from evil." Proverbs 4:25-27
6. His relationship with Jesus
A relationship with Jesus offers forgiveness, peace, hope, love, freedom, etc. Pray that your husband would seek and grow closer to God in the midst of any hardship he may be facing. Pray that he would be led by Jesus as he continues to lead your family. Pray that he daily puts his trust in God, and not in man. Pray that the Lord uses Him boldly to reach others for His Kingdom!
”But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” Matthew 6:33
“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” James 4:8
7. His job
Sometimes it's easy to forget that our husbands have a whole other world called “work," where they experience different challenges and stresses, outside of the home. Pray for his success, and that his superiors would have favor on him. Pray that he has a good work ethic, and works his best effort unto the Lord. Pray that he grows a passion for his work, but continues to keep his identity safely in Christ. Lastly, pray that he is an example to his coworkers, and sets a high standard for others to follow.
"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” Colossians 3:23
8. His financial decisions
When money is tight, finances can be stressful and burdensome. When flowing, it can be wasted excessively! Pray that, in faith, your husband makes wise decisions with money that are honoring to God, and that there's always honesty between you both in regards to it. Remember, that money does not meet our needs…God does!
“And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus." 1 Philippians 4:19
9. His role as a husband and father
Husbands and fathers have such a big impact and necessary presence in family life! Ask God to protect your marriage, bring you closer together in the hard times, and keep the adventure, emotional intimacy, and romance alive in your relationship! Pray that your husband continues to grow a healthy and present relationship with your children, and is a positive example for them.
"Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.” –Mark 10:9
"Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged.” – Colossians 3:21
10. His Relationships
The people we spend the most time with will influence our actions and mindsets in either a positive, or negative way! (This is why spending time with God is so beneficial, and impactful to our lives!) Pray that God surrounds your husband with people who will positively influence and encourage him. Pray that God gives him spiritual role models that can pour into him, as well as people he can pour into with God's truth and love. Pray that God removes any toxic relationships from his life, and replaces them with healthy ones.
"Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise,
but the companion of fools will suffer harm."
Proverbs 13:20
I hope that you enjoyed these 10 things you can pray for your husband! (Of course, you can alter this list to fit your husband's specific needs!) When we take time to pray for someone, we are taking the focus off of our needs, and placing it on the needs of others! That's real love right there! Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ." Galatians 6:2. Take care, friends, as we love and grow closer to our husbands!
Cool, Calm, and Collectedly Yours,
