A few year ago, my sister in law gifted me this beautiful and thoughtful chart containing every day behavioral problems that every child deals with, a look at the heart of those problems, and what Scripture says to do about it. It has since been placed on my fridge, and used consistently when I’m at a loss for how to deal with a certain negative behavior that arises in my children.
Not only does this helpful tool shine a light on what sinful behaviors to give reproof, or “put off,” but it also shows what righteous behaviors to encourage, or “put on.” This is followed by heart probing questions, and additional verses to help your child better understand the reasoning behind the corrective action. For example, if we want our child to put off “Strife,” and instead put on “Peace Making,” we would discuss the heart probing questions together, followed by reading supportive Scripture. Other examples of sinful behaviors covered are complaining, coveting, bragging, defiance, lying, tattling, teasing, whining, and even more.
